Information and Updates for Cpl Roy with 1/7
Last Update: 3/20/2010             << Back to list

Operation PAL Participant In June 2006 Cpl Roy was involved in an incident in Iraq which burned over 70% of his body and took the lives of three others with 1/7. This family has 5 boys that are all Marines! (See Oct 6, 2009 update for photo description)

Update: 07/10/2006
I spoke to Cpl. Roy's mom yesterday and he continues to make slow but steady progress. He has been able to walk (with assistance) about 10 feet and is talking. She said to tell everyone thank you for your prayers because they are working! God Bless you all!!

Update: August 12, 2006 He is no longer in the intensive care burn unit. They have 4 burn units with different levels of care. He has moved to the first level out of intensive care. He has had multiple skin grafts and all but one has been successful. He walks with a walker and is going to PT. I talked to his mom today and she said he has had a very painful week. As you know, recovery from burns is extremely painful and it is so difficult for her to see her son in such pain. However, she is a strong woman of amazing faith, courage and devotion.

Update: October 2006 He is now outpatient and is able to live at The Guest House with his family. He spends all day in PT and then has wound care in the evenings. Roy's mom said getting out of the hospital has really lifted his spirits. He continues to make steady progress and will have another skin graft this month.
Thanks again everyone for your support of Roy and his family.

Update November 2006: I talked to Roy's mom last week. He continues to make good progress in PT. He is walking unassisted and is able to go up and down stairs. They get to go home on weekends which makes Roy very happy. As good as the news is, he has a long way to go. Please continue to pray for him and give the family support.

Update: Spring 2007 Roy is walking faster and has had 9 surgeries so far. Mom opens each card for him. He and his family appreciate them very, very much.

Update: 6/9/2009 We have heard that Roy is continuing with his therapies and surgeries, and is progressing with this huge task of getting well. The time it takes for skin grafts to grow, have surgery, see if the grafts take, then the healing, is a constant cycle. It may seem like a long time since we've posted an update. Can you imagine how long all this time seems to him? Thank you for continuing to support this Marine in his new fight.

Update October 6, 2009 We've been trying to get photos of all of our PALs. Roy is still undergoing graft surgeries and didn't want us to post a photo of him. He sent this because he thinks his puppy is cuter than he is (at the moment). Marines....gotta love 'em.

Update 3/20/2010 Roy has moved and is now able to take some classes. He says, "I'm doing great. A lil busy with school but thats going really good too. I miss friends and family but I'm glad to be living somewhere dry. I hate the humidity."
By the way, his dog's name is Conrad and is growing by leaps and bounds.
