Information and Updates for Sgt.  Gary Update: 6/21/2010 with 2/7
Last Update: 6/21/2010             << Back to list

Operation PAL Participant Sgt. Gary was in an IED blast in April 2007. He has been in the hospital ever since, recovering from all the wounds he sustained. Among them, his back was broken in 9 places and he had severe breaks to both of his legs and ankles. Please consider sending him some cheer. He still has a long way to go and you can help make that journey more comfortable.

Update: November 25, 2009 Gary has been working while he's at the Wounded Warrior Barracks and has been very helpful to our volunteers. They want to keep him. He was able just last week to go on an outing that MarineParents Purple Heart Family Support sponsored and had a great time at an amusement park. Our volunteer said it was heartwarming to watch people come up and thank our humble warriors and it was very good for them to get out and have a great time.

Update January 18, 2010 Our volunteer writes: "Sgt. Gary is going home. It is with a very heavy and happy heart to see Gary go. He has been at the hospital for quite awhile and we've come to love and appreciate Gary like a son. He has been so helpful to us and a part of our family. As you can see in his picture, that wonderful smile of his and great hugs are going to be missed. We wish him all the best in his new adventures as a civilian and can't thank him enough for the sacrifice he made for our freedoms." It is good news that he is going home! We too, wish him all the best and know that he has a bright future ahead of him. Semper Fi Sgt. Gary!
Note: We have not taken Gary off the list yet but we are checking to see if cards will still be of help to him. We have his new address and will forward any cards you send.

Update: 6/21/2010 Since going home Gary has moved on with his recovery and his life. Your cards and letters have been greatly appreciated but it is now time to write to someone else who needs them more.
Gary, we wish you the best! Thanks for your service and sacrifice for our freedom.
