Information and Updates for Cpl. Jake Update: 6/15/2010 with 2nd CEB
Last Update: 6/15/2010             << Back to list

Operation PAL Participant Cpl. Jake was injured on April 3, 2009 in Afghanistan. He stepped on an IED and both legs have had to be amputated below the knees. He has shrapnel injuries, one of which needed a skin graft, but all seems to be healing well. Mom says his attitude is great and he's already making plans for his future.
The same day he was injured, his grandfather passed away. This family is handling their tragic situation with all the courage you'd expect from a Marine family.

Update 9/20/09 Jake is doing well. He still has a long way to go but he has progressed rapidly for such severe injuries. He was done with the wheelchair within 3 months and did all his first rehabs for his prosthetics even with a cast on his arm. He made it to an August wedding and was standing for it! His goal is to 'be done by March'. Let's hope so Jake! Mom says he's driving like a normal person! These guys can do anything! Please keep this warrior in your thoughts and prayers for continued healing and strength. He would appreciate receiving cards and letters of support from all of you.

Update: November 25, 2009 Jake was the recipient of a segway motorized personal mobility vehicle. He should be getting around easily now and looking pretty snazzy while he does! Go Jake!

Update: 12/19/2009 Jake's Mom has let us know that Jake is "doing super". He is able to come home for a visit at Christmas and will return to the hospital in January. Mom says she prays that all the wounded do as well as Jake has.

Update: 6/15/2010 It's time to take Jake off the list. He is doing well at last report and has moved on in his recovery. He predicted he'd "be done by March" and it looks like he was very close.
Jake and family, we wish you the best and hope your future is very, very bright!
