After recovering from a brain injury suffered in Iraq last year, John was involved in an IED attack in Afghanistan in May of this year. He has lost both legs and both hands/forearms. He has much shrapnel, and infections are constant. He was married just before deploying, on Valentine's day 2010 and his bride's name is Kristine. The family would appreciate your prayers and cards of encouragement.
Update: 7/25/2010 John has asked many times "Where's Grandpa?" Well, Grandpa (Richard) got in the car and made the long trip to the hospital. He walked in the room and said "Where's my Marine?" which got a very happy, teary reception.
John was moved to a regular room today and is now out of ICU. This is a huge step for someone who just a few weeks ago was fighting infections and mold growth with constant life-threatening implications.
Richard said there are plans for a flagpole to be erected in his yard and a caravan of Marines from his hometown to deliver a USMC flag, signed along the way by all the Marines they come in contact with. The plan is to present it to John when they arrive at the hospital.
According to Richard, John is awake and kidding around with the nurses....another good sign. Keep up the good healing John. We are all behind you!
