Information and Updates for LCpl. Lewis with 1/2
Last Update: 6/17/2010             << Back to list

Operation PAL Participant Lewis was wounded in Afghanistan near the end of March 2010. He was shot multiple times. Both legs sustained wounds but the left leg was worse - bullets shattered his shin bone and caused loss of muscle. He will be having bone graft surgery in early May. Currently his leg is in a halo, but he's up on crutches already.
Mom says he has a long road ahead of him but he is alive and the leg will heal -- Lord willing.
She also mentioned that while at the hospital, they enjoyed a meal provided by MarineParents.com -- "a wonderful group of ladies! and delicious food."

They'd love to hear some words of encouragement while they get through this recovery. Please send a card today.

Update: 5/4/2010 Lewis' Mom has let us know the first batch of cards arrived and they are so thankful. Lewis wishes he could get back to each one of you with thanks so we said we'd post his gratitude. He especially loves the hard work that children put in to help him feel better. Your good wishes are being well-received.

Update: 5/11/2010 We hear that PFC Lewis has now been promoted to LCpl. Lewis. OohRah to the Lance Corporal!

Update: 6/17/2010 from Mom...Lewis is doing well and has been cleared to go back to his base and continue with his recovery there. He still has the halo on his leg and will for a few more months but he is walking with a cane and getting around quite well.
She also reported that he was married last week in the Chapel at the Marine Corps Musuem in a simple, but lovely ceremony with family and friends in attendance. The new "Mrs" is Katie.
They really appreciate the cards. Mom said one child drew a picture and wrote "I hope you heal so you can get back to what you want to do." Mom says she could not have summed it up any better.
If you are writing, "Congrats" will be welcomed!
