LCpl. Aaron was wounded in Afghanistan on 8/5/2009. He has multiple injures and fractures to his arms, legs and back. His family is now with him and would love to get cards and letters of support.
Update: 8/19/2009 from Mom:
Aaron's latest surgery went well. His arm was worse than they thought but it will heal. He is also battling fever and not eating.
We hope Aaron's temp returns to normal soon and that his appetite restores along with it. Stay strong.
Update 8/22/2009 from Mom: He has gotten up and sat in a chair! That was such an awesome breakthrough. Today one of the Marines that volunteers at the hospital came and gave Aaron a haircut and he got a shave a couple of days ago. He looks so so much better. The staff here have been just awesome. They treat you like one of the family and make you feel like you belong.
Update: 8/24/2009 from Mom: Aaron is still not walking or using his right arm but he is making progress. As the old phrase goes, you have to crawl before you can walk and walk before you can run. I feel like we have entered the crawling stage and I am a new mother jumping up and down with excitement. Once we are in the new rehab facility with a somewhat regular schedule I will get on line more, until then I thank you.
I want to thank you for the mail from your sons and the cards. It makes Aaron smile. Please tell all of your sons that they are in our prayers and please be careful. A big thanks goes out to them from our family, if not for the quick thinking on their part it could have been worse for Aaron. I hope they are all safe and getting enough to eat and drink.
Update 9/13/09 Aaron's mother recently reported that Aaron is doing better and trying really hard to get back the use of his arm and leg, and to get his strength back. As of 9/11/09, she wrote that he has gained enough strength to walk, he is walking slowly, but he has definitely made progress with his strength. They will be transferring hospitals soon to begin his rehab. Marine Liaisons are helping Aaron and his family with the transfer. His mother plans to be with him the entire time and his wife and dad will travel back and forth when time and funds allow. Please pray for Aaron's rehab and healing and to keep his family strong throughout, as well. Please send cards and letters of encouragement their way, it would mean so much.
Update 9/20/09 Aaron is doing well enough now that his chest tube has been removed, he is also walking and has graduated from crutches to a cane. His family stated that the support Aaron received in Maryland was wonderful and very important and valuable for them. They have transferred hospitals now and both of his parents are with him, but for now his wife has returned home due to her job. Aaron is getting better and hanging in there, and so are his folks and his wife. This is one strong Marine family!! He is making plans and taking steps towards returning to his unit. Your cards and letters and words of encouragement are an important part of the support they have received. Please continue keep them in your thoughts and prayers.
Update 9/22/2009 from Dad:
"Aaron is starting his second week at the new hospital. The staff are wonderful, just like the staff in the first hospital. Kim will remain with him until his status gets changed to outpatient. Aaron has a follow-up appointment in Maryland on Oct 9th. His walking has gotten better, sometimes he is doing it without a cane. Watching him walk brings back memories of his first steps when he was young. It's the parent thing."
OohRah Aaron for all the hard work you are putting in at rehab! This has got to be painful and difficult at best so let's keep him motivated by letting him know we care.
Update 10/20/09 The OperationPAL cards are getting to Aaron's family and they are so grateful for all the support they have been given. They appreciate the acts of kindness on everyone's part. Kim mentioned Aaron will be able to go home for 30 days recuperative leave and he can't wait for that. He is walking now, with a limp, but walking under his own power. His shoulder is frozen but that will be worked on as the therapy continues. They are starting to talk about letting him drive. Your encouragement has been important to this Marine, please keep on letting him know how much you care.
Update: 6/19/2010 from Mom -
Aaron has been doing multiple therapies and was doing better but has not been cleared to go back to full duty. To complicate matters, he will soon undergo surgery for thyroid cancer. His Mom is going to be with him for the surgery.
She says the letters and cards are great. She thinks of you all often and all the great things that you do.
So lets keep the good wishes coming in for him and let him know we are with him in this new fight.
Update: 7/6/2010 from Mom: Aaron's Biopsy came back positive. They are going back in for more surgery and then do Radiation.
Please continue to keep this recovering Marine in your prayers.....and send an envelope full of sunshine. They can use it.
